parityภาวะคู่หรือคี่หมายถึง กรรมวิธีของการทดสอบความผิดพลาดของข้อมูลโดยการเพิ่มบิตต่อกันเข้ากับข้อมูล โดยวิธีการเพิ่มบิตที่มีจำนวนค่าเป็นคี่ (1) ให้เปลี่ยนเป็นเลขคู่ (0) เรียกว่า ภาวะเสริมคู่ (even parity) หรือ เพิ่มบิตที่มีจำนวนค่าเป็นคู่ (0) ให้เปลี่ยนเป็นเลขคี่ (1) เรียกว่า ภาวะเสริมคี่ (odd parity)
parity bitบิตภาวะคู่หรือคี่หมายถึง บิตที่เพิ่มขึ้นมา เพื่อตรวจสอบความผิดพลาดในการส่งข้อมูล ถ้าเป็น 1 ก็เรียกว่า ภาวะคี่ ถ้าเป็น 0 ก็เป็น ภาวะคู่
